1968 - Switching-on ceremony

In February 1969, over 300 power poles had been installed on the Te Kaha project, with 13.4 route miles of line construction, 22 transformer substation structures, and 42 miles of the aluminum conductor had been erected. With the project nearing completion the contract was let for an automatic telephone exchange in Te Kaha.

The switching-on ceremony took place on 11 August 1969.
