2014 - Security of Supply

One of the worst electrical storms to hit the Eastern Bay of Plenty in decades damaged transformers from Matatā to Ōpōtiki, and inland as far as Murupara, Matahi and Waimana. Power was cut to 9,000 consumers. Four-hundred fuse sets and 40 transformers needed to be replaced.

Despite the challenges, upgrades initiated by the company delivered $1M of reliability projects, continued with the Kope T2 transformer ($1.5M) upgrade, purchased a new 1MVA generator, upgraded the earthmat at the East Bank substation and undergrounded Bracken Street in Whakatāne.
