1982 Award for Āniwhenua Hydro-Electric Project was unveiled by Platt Gow and Hon. Bill Birch.
Tonkin and Taylor, designers for the Āniwhenua Hydro-Electric Scheme, had won a national award from the Association of Consulting Engineers in New Zealand for the project which was described as “a fine example of engineering excellence”. The judges had praised the project, noting the designer’s determination to use local materials and the care taken with environmental aspects of the project, which included better public access to the Āniwhenua Falls and providing a recreational lake.
