1912 - Licence granted

In 1912 Ōpōtiki Borough Council was granted a licence for the installation of electric lights in the borough. Within a year the Letts Brothers had a gas operated plant in operation to generate direct current electricity.

In 1927 the Letts Brothers plant was purchased by the Bay of Plenty Electric Power Board. The plant was closed down the following year in November 1928, when the Power Board supplied directly to customers.
